Arvada, Colorado residents know a good thing when they see it. Historic charm and plenty of open space have long made the city special. Now, the historic town has one more thing to brag about: happiness

Arvada was recently ranked the second most happiest mid-sized city in America, according to Movoto Real Estate.

 

Inspired by the book, Who’s Your City? by Richard Florida, Movoto based the happiness of a city on several different factors.

  • Low stress factors including unemployment rates, length of commutes and cost of living
  • Low violent crime rates
  • Yearly salary, those making over $25,000 being consistently happier overall
  • Married residents
  • Home ownership
  • College education, bachelor’s degrees and above
  • Convenience of amenities

 

Arvada came in second on the list due to its walkable amenities, high homeownership and high safety rates.

 High Country

There are so many things residents of Arvada have to be happy about. Only a 30-minute drive northwest of Denver, Arvada has the charm of a historic community without being far from Colorado’s capital city. 

Olde Town Arvada is a delightful area with independent shops owned by friendly people, unique restaurants and gorgeous tree-lined sidewalks perfect for a weekend stroll. The Olde Town water tower looks over the community as a reminder of its agricultural past.

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is a popular destination for residents and visitors alike to enjoy one of the country’s biggest multidisciplinary arts centers. Exhibits focused on upcoming and renowned artists and theatre performances are available year round. Those looking to learn something new can try dance, ceramics, acting and a variety of other classes that are offered to both kids and adults.

This community originated as a mining destination in the mid 1800s, but when gold wasn’t easy to find, residents turned to farming. Today, every summer from June to September, local growers are celebrated and supported as they sell and sample their products on Sundays at the city’s signature Olde Town Farmers Market.
