Porches have returned. They were never really gone, of course, but sipping lemonade and watching the world go by from the porch swing has mostly been a thing of the past. These days, though, people coast to coast are coming out of their homes and onto their porches again, from homes in Irvine, California to houses in Tampa, Florida.
Make your porch a welcoming place where you like hanging out and your friends feel right at home.
Install a swing. Sitting on a swing is hypnotic, great for either good conversation or private contemplation.
Add rocking chairs. Like a swing, rocking chairs have an old-fashioned charm and comfort.
Decorate for the season. For example, on 4th of July, add red, white and blue to the color scheme. A cheerful wreath during the holidays is a nice vintage touch, too.
Hang seasonal flowering plants. Add a splash of color with hanging baskets filled with seasonal flowering plants.
String lights for evening appeal. A front porch hung with strings of light sends a welcoming message at night, perfect for evening entertaining.
Dress up that small porch. Even a small porch can be made more attractive and a little exterior decorating. This video shows you how to decorate a tiny porch.
