You’ve Purchased, Now What? Things to Do Before You Move In

How to Prepare for Your New Home Move-In

If you’ve just purchased a new Taylor Morrison home, congratulations! Looking back, it was no doubt fun to tour the models and imagine what it would be like to live in the community. But, after you pick your community, floor plan and home site, you still have a ways to go before you can pick up the keys and move in. Between now and then, there’s a lot to do. Let’s break it down.

1. Start packing.

It’s never too early to start packing up for your move. This is a great time to weed out the sundry don’t-wants and don’t-needs you’re sure to discover. Even if you plan to use professionals who will pack up for you, it’s always best to at least sort through everything first.

2. Take care of the details.

This is the part that many find to be a headache compared to the excitement of moving into your new home. But checking these chores off your to-do list can be satisfying. You’ll need to research and book a moving company. If you’re moving across town you might consider a different mover than you would if you’re living in a condo in Irvine, CA and are moving to your new home in Denver, CO. You’ll also want to schedule your new utility connections and arrange to have your mail forwarded.

3. Visit the Design Studio.

This is the fun part! Visit our Design Studio. Make an appointment and a design professional to guide you through the process of selecting the finishes for your new home. From flooring to tile to home tech, it’s all here for your choosing. To prepare, gather magazine photos of styles you and your family like and bring them with you to the appointment. Find out more on our Design Studio web page.

4. Sell your home.

When it comes to selling your home you can sell your home yourself, but be prepared to personally show your home, answer questions, negotiate price, and deal with other details. With a REALTOR® you pay a commission, but an expert will take care of everything for you.

5. Do your new home final walk-through.

When construction on your new house is complete, you’ll go on a walk-through and inspect everything. With a Taylor Morrison home, you can count on quality. You’ll likely not have any issues at all, but it’s best to look carefully to make sure you’re satisfied.
