Learn How Elem3nts® is Kind to the Planet
Founded in 1970, Earth Day is an international phenomenon. Today, this worldwide celebration is recognized in 193 countries across the globe. It’s a day to honor peace and demonstrate support for environmental protection.
At Taylor Morrison, we take “going green” very seriously. Our Elem3nts® program is on the cutting edge of environmentally friendly home building policy & innovation. We’re proud of the efforts we take to create the best possible living conditions not only for our customers – but for the world in general.
It’s everyone’s responsibility to do their part to make a commitment to the future of our planet. Our commitment is to building energy efficient homes with sustainable materials for future generations.
Elem3nts® is all about the three E’s: Energy, Efficiency and the Environment. By keeping a keen eye on new technology, together we can all lower the carbon footprint of every new home we build.
It doesn’t matter where you hope to live. From new homes in Sacramento to Naples, FL real estate, we’re building state-of-the-art homes near you.
Partnering with Energy Star®
In several divisions Taylor Morrison builds ENERGY STAR® certified homes that follow strict adherence to a number of energy efficiency guidelines. Endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, construction products and building standards that qualify for the program are tested and guaranteed to provide a heightened level of energy efficiency.
Working with ENERGY STAR®’s guidance is not just good for the environment. It’s a great way to ensure that home buyers who purchase our homes will pay less for heating, cooling, water and electricity every month.
- For more information on your home and energy efficiency, learn about the HERS Index. The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is the benchmark for comparing homes side by side. The lower the rating, the greater the efficiency. It’s just that simple. And to make it easier for our customers to make the right choice for their family, every Taylor Morrison home is given a HERS rating. If you’re wondering how we do…the standard 10-year old home rates 150 on average. Taylor Morrison homes usually fall between 60 and 70. That’s much more efficient than your typical used home.
Innovative Building Products and Why They Matter
The science behind energy efficient building materials makes all the difference in the world. Low HERS ratings don’t happen by accident. We add higher R–value insulation, radiant barriers, jump ducts, low–E windows and better water management systems to many of the homes we build to achieve such impressive results.
And what’s great is that we list out all these features on our website to make it easy for prospective buyers to see what technology is or isn’t included with most floor plans.
For example, let’s look at these new Denver homes in Castle Rock, Colorado. Click on the first community, Terrain Flat Rock. If you scroll down to the bottom you’ll find a tab that says “Home Features.”
About three-quarters of the way down you’ll find Energy Saving Features:
- Lennox energy efficient furnace
- Energy efficient, insulated Atrium double pane Low-E vinyl windows
- 50-gallon electric hot water heater
- R-44 cantilevers
- Honeywell automatic setback thermostat
- R-23 blown fiberglass 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 exterior walls (per plan)
- R-50 blown fiberglass & batts at flat & sloped ceilings
In the same section you’ll also find tons of other useful information like safety features, tech installations, design features and more.

Making Your Pledge and Celebrating Earth Day at Home
Last year we posted a blog article with a lots of fun Earth Day projects you can do at home. And we’ve also uploaded content in the past on tips & tricks to be more energy efficient.
But this year we’d like to do something a little different. We’re going to ask you to make a pledge. To join us and the folks at Earthday.org to reduce your plastic usage.
We’re sure you’ve seen the terrifying photos of gigantic plastic islands floating in our oceans. All this plastic comes from somewhere. Cutting waste begins in the home.
It’s easy to do:
- Calculate your plastic consumption with the Plastic Pollution Calculator
- Download the reduction plan and tracker
- Enter your details and make your pledge
- Create a plan of action and monitor your progress
