10 Must-Do Activities for Getting to Know The Colony

At Taylor Morrison, we’re committed to designing houses that feel like home the moment you walk into them. Our Waterford Point community, located at the Tribute in The Colony, Texas offers spacious, single story floor plans that give you plenty of room to live your life.

Still, what really makes a home isn’t confined to the inside of your walls, it’s also about loving the comfortable community you live in.

One of the most exciting parts of moving into a new home is exploring the community. It’s the beginning of an adventure where every turn could result in the discovery of the café, park bench or bistro that will later become known for being “your spot”.

And, let’s not forget about the new friends you’ll meet along the way – the ones you’ll become so close to that you think of them as family. These are the things that a community is made of, and we’d like to help you discover yours.

Here are 10 must-do activities to help you get acclimated with your new community.

1) Head Out to the Green

The Tribute is practically synonymous with golfing.

Two beautiful, premier golf courses have made this one of the top spots for both professional and novice golfers with an appreciation of the history of the sport.

If you want to learn more about The Tribute, and your fellow residents, spend an afternoon – or several – taking in 18 holes at The Tribute Golf Links. The course is said to be modeled after some of the most legendary courses in Scotland and emulates some of their most challenging features.

You’ll find that it’s practically impossible to spend a day of golfing in The Tribute and not feel like you’ve found the pulse of the community.

2) Embrace Lake Living

Being located on one of Lewisville Lake’s peninsula, you’ll find that many people in the community consider the lake to be an important part of their daily lives.

Try waking up a little early on the weekend and heading out to the lake with your kayak to enjoy the cool morning breeze and take in the gorgeous sunrise.

Many residents find their way to the lake for daily or weekly rituals, and while they might appreciate a little solitude, they’re also eager to get to know other residents.

Spending time at the lake is a great way to meet new friends who can introduce you to the other community wonders that can be found in the Tribute.

3) Take in a Concert at Lava Cantina

When you’re ready to experience a taste of The Colony’s spicier vibe, head over to Lava Cantina for their take on cuisine with both a creole and Mexican flair. This popular meeting spot is also the venue for some of the area’s best live music.

Lava Cantina has a packed concert schedule, but what makes this place such a focal point is the fact that they also host other events like kids’ movie days, Pilates on the Patio and activities to support local charities.

4) Visit the Library

Thanks to technology, it’s possible to learn just about anything with a few taps on a keyboard.

While you can spend some time on your computer learning about the community and life in The Tribute, why not head to The Colony Public Library instead?

It’s a great community resource with databases and plenty of information about the history of the area to soak in. The library is also a long standing partner with The Colony History Project, which aims to collect and preserve historical documents, photos, artifacts and genealogy reports.

5) Become a ‘Friends of the Colony’ Volunteer

The Colony hosts festivals and special events for its residents throughout the year. There’s always something fun going on, which means plenty of chances to meet and interact with your new community.

But, not a single one of these events would be as great as they are if it weren’t for the hard work of the volunteers behind the scenes.

If you like the idea of giving back to the community as you become more familiar with it, consider volunteering for the Friends of The Colony Volunteer Program (FOTC). It was specifically designed to help residents connect with their neighbors and the community through volunteer service.

6) Take Your Tiny Fur Friend on a Playdate

If you’re the proud parent of a small canine fur baby, you’ll want to the head over to the dog park in Westbury Village. The park is open from 7am to 9pm, and was designed to be a play utopia for smaller breeds.

If your dog is under 25lbs and doesn’t exceed a maximum of 14 inches from the top of their shoulder, take them on a playdate and get to know the community of dog lovers in the area.

7) Cool Off at Hawaiian Falls

Summer days in Texas can be sweltering. Why not head off to Hawaiian Falls for a day of cool fun?

The waterpark is built with fun for all ages in mind. Even young family members will love the water walkway, while the more adventurous head off to take on the 65 ft body slides.

They also offer private cabanas that can transform your trip to the water park into a tropical vacation, right in the heart of Texas.

8) Visit the Thirsty Growler

If you have a thirst for discovering the community, there’s no better place to be than the Thirsty Growler.

With over 50 rotating taps that include beer, root beer, cider, and kombucha, it turns grabbing a quick drink with friends or the family into a community gathering adventure.

9) Spend the Day at Stewart Creek Park

One of the most beautiful parks in Texas, Stewart Creek is owned by The Colony, and is arguably one of the best amenities in the area. You’ll find a nice beach area, complete with beach volleyball, horseshoe pits, hiking trails and boat access.

Bring a picnic lunch and spend the entire day discovering the natural beauty of the area.
