Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions with a New Home

New Home, New Year's Resolutions

Stay Healthy & Fit with a Home Gym & Luxury Kitchen

Making a New Year’s resolution is a tradition as time honored as breaking one! We figured it was a great time to show you how much easier it is to stay the course if you’ve got the right tools waiting for you at home.

More than any other resolution, the desire to get healthy and stay that way goes by the wayside when the going gets tough.

So, let’s make it less tough.

Even Healthy Restaurants Just Aren’t That Healthy

Eating out is good fun, which is why Taylor Morrison locates new home communities near delicious restaurants and fun cafes – but too much of a good thing can go straight to your waistline.

Cooking at home is healthier, cheaper and a fantastic way to bond with your partner and family. And since you control the portions and the ingredients, it’s the tastiest way to lose weight there is.

But for cooking to be enjoyable, you need a kitchen designed to make it so. One that’s spacious and open with plenty of workspace and storage. Want a fresh outlook on cooking – get a new kitchen. It’s just that simple.

And while every Taylor Morrison house design features a beautiful gourmet kitchen arrangement, some of our homes go the extra mile.

New Phoenix Homes at Encore at Eastmark

As part of the Encore Collection, the Sydney plan offers an open-plan kitchen layout that’s as bright as it is luxurious. Notice all the shelf space in the walk-in pantry and how designer details like the tile backsplash, recessed lighting and stainless-steel appliances create an ambiance any chef would be happy to work in.

Now That Your Food’s in Order, Let’s Get Fit!

Fitness resolutions tend to come strong out of the gate but fizzle long before the home stretch. Why? Because life is busy and people tend to set arbitrary goals. Goals that are impossible to track and difficult to follow.

Instead of making a general promise to work out more, stick to this 4-step process:

  1. Set a Specific Goal: Don’t say you want to spend more time at the gym. Make a commitment to go three times a week. Don’t say you want to lose some weight. Specify that you’d like to lose 20 pounds. Choose a goal. Make it specific. And make it achievable.
  2. Lay Out a Timeline: A goal without a deadline is wishful thinking. Choose a specific date on the calendar and hold yourself to it.
  3. Track Your Progress: Tracking your progress holds you accountable. It’s also a great motivational tool as you see yourself moving closer and closer to your goal.
  4. Create an Action Plan: A vision without a plan is more like a dream. Maybe you need to schedule gym time into your schedule before you slot in meetings. Maybe you need to set a daily calorie limit. Maybe you need to sign up for a guided exercise class. Write down a detailed plan for how you plan to do it.

And one great way to do it is to set up a convenient at-home gym. Get creative, every floor plan has room for an exercise space if you look for it

Yoga on the Patio

At Reynolds Mill, new Raleigh, NC homes feature gorgeous Carolina style covered porches. What better workout space than the natural wooded backdrop of this beautiful Wade house design. Simply roll out your mat and start sweating.

Convert the Game Room

The beauty of purchasing a new home with a game room is that you’re buying a lot of bonus space to work with. Look at the Catalina plan schematics at our Travisso Florence Collection in Austin, TX. There’s plenty of flexible square footage upstairs to set up a gym and still have room to spare.

Just 2 Cars? Your Tandem Garage is Now Your Fitness Center

Many of our new home communities offer a 3-car tandem garage like the one at Residence 2 at Avery at the Grove in Southern California. Instead of filling the area with boxes and last year’s fake Christmas tree, set up a personal cross-fit gym or get an elliptical unit or treadmill.

Avery plans also include loft space upstairs. Perfect for hanging a flat screen TV to watch your favorite Pilates coach, yoga class or stretching routine.

Keeping Fit

If you’re looking more for a lifestyle overhaul, perhaps a new home in an active lifestyle (all ages) and 55+ communities will be just the ticket for a healthier you.

Whether you’re looking to relax, explore or keep busy on the golf course, every one of these communities includes fitness related amenities designed to make exercise easy and fun.

Make it a Family Affair

In closing, cooking more at home and injecting more exercise into your weekly routine shouldn’t be a solo mission. Make an effort to create healthy habits as a family and soon it will be second nature.

Go outside. Reduce screen time. Plan adventures. Cook meal together.

You’ve got this!
