On one hand, Labor Day signifies the end of summer; kids may sulk about it, while parents are usually ready for school to start. But, Labor Day is also about acknowledging American workers. We’ve put together an overview of some events for kids and grownups near Taylor Morrison communities across the country.

ARIZONA

Phoenix

Explore the desert at night – The kids will love the flashlight tours offered at the Desert Botanical Garden on Saturday, August 30.

Catch a wave – Go flowboarding or bodyboarding at FlowRider, a simulated surfing attraction where you can experience the sport in a controlled environment.

Take a music cruise – Join Lake Pleasant Cruises for a musical cruise on August 30th . You’ll get to see the sights while enjoying the music.

Drink some vino – More of an adults-only event, the 33rd Annual Harvest Celebration on Sunday, August 31 offers tasting and more at 40 wineries throughout Livermore Valley Wine Country. This is especially convenient to the communities of Brighton and Lucca, which is located in Dublin.

Sacramento

Enjoy some old-time fun – The Labor Day Weekend Americana in Old Sacramento has a full lineup of activities, from live music, beer garden, classic car display and more.

Take in a summer’s night concert – Tap your toes and eat some delicious grub at a Hot Summer Nights Concert on August 29th at Elk Grove’s Laguna Town Hall.

Southern California

Make it a day in America’s Finest City – There is plenty to do over Labor Day Weekend in San Diego, including the SoCAL Music Festival and Flagship Cruises Labor Day BBQ Bash.

Go to the fair – The L.A. County Fair opens on Labor Day Weekend with non-stop fun, food and musical performances.

Appreciate the arts – Go to Laguna and catch the 2014 Stardust Art Festival before it ends after August 31 and the amazing Pageant of the Masters, which closes for the year after August 30.

Denver

Savor a tasty occasion – If you have a house in Denver you can’t miss out A Taste of Colorado, where you’ll eat well and enjoy some exciting events, kicked off with a concert followed by the spectacular fireworks and light show.

Enjoy all that jazz – Take in a Jazzmasters Free Concert in Naples, held every Saturday through October 25.

Soak in some Florida sunshine – Whether you want to laze about and catch some rays or are ready for some coastal craziness, Fort Myers’ Best Beaches have what you’re looking for.

Jacksonville

Your choice – Jacksonville is brimming with Labor Day Weekend celebrations, from tribute concerts to movie classics to a Harriet the Spy film for kids.

Orlando

Pick a theme – Whether you live here, are staying at a vacation house in Orlando, choose from a menu of theme parks, including Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orland Resort, Seaworld Orlando and Legoland Florida.

Float down a river – Explore the area’s most beautiful waterways on a kayak tour by Central Florida Nature Adventures, which offers kayaking for folks of every experience level.

Sarasota

Make a deal – If you enjoy a good bargain and fresh foods, check out the Dome Flea Market and Farmers Market in Venice, which is near our Verona Reserve community.

Get back to nature – The Branch Tropical Garden is having a Labor Day Garden Tour and Plant Sale where you can explore world-class plant collections, get some landscaping advice, and buy plants to take home.

Tampa

Take a hike – From hiking and walking trails and a boardwalk to canoe and kayak rentals, fishing, and picnicking, Upper Tampa Bay Regional Park offers a variety of great ways to celebrate Labor Day Weekend.

TEXAS

Austin

Treat the kids to a Dallas day – Get your tickets now for the family-friendly LEGO KidsFest, coming to the Dallas Convention Center August 29-31.

Go fish – Fish, camp, hike, mountain bike, road bike, picnic, and observe wildlife at McKinney Falls State Park. While you’re there, take advantage of a free checkout of Junior Ranger Explorer Packs for the kids.

Houston

Make it a family day – Celebrate Labor Day with the family at Waterway Square in The Woodlands on Friday, August 30th.  There’ll be fireworks, live music, strolling entertainers, a balloon artist and face painter and more.

Skip the ticket lines – Fill the weekend with fun using a CityPass, good for nine whole days. You’ll get admission tickets to some tourist attraction favorites and save.
