Where Is Celina, Texas? Everything You Wanted to Know About Moving to Celina

Celina Texas Wineries

Opening in the summer of 2018, Sweetwater at Light Farms is one of Taylor Morrison’s newest housing communities.

Sweetwater is part of Light Farms, a 1,000+ acre master planned community located in Celina, Texas that offers a luxurious mix of resort-style amenities, including five pools, a fully equipped fitness center, community information center, three tennis courts, four pickleball courts, two basketball courts, two bocce ball courts, and a sand volleyball court.

These amenities are spread out amongst 240 acres of fields, parks, playgrounds, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

In Light Farms, there is literally something for everyone to do.

Home Sweet Home

Set on the rolling plains of North Texas, Celina is one of Texas’s best-kept secrets.

Although it is surrounded by seemingly endless miles of farms and ranches, this north Texas community is no one horse town.

Celina has produced state champion high school football and baseball teams and professional athletes like Major League baseball pitcher Ryan Merritt.

Influential people like Senator Craig James have fallen in love with Celina’s small-town charm, and Grammy award-winning country artist Kenny Chesney featured it in his video The Boys of Fall.

Celina is Close to Everything

Halfway between Dallas and the Oklahoma border, Celina is situated in the center of North Texas’s most popular communities including McKinney, Gunter, and Prosper.

It sits twenty miles north of Frisco on state highway 289 and is conveniently located right on the Dallas North Tollway extension.

Dallas and Gainesville are only 45 minutes away, and Denton is a roughly 35-minute drive. Celina’s location really does put it in the perfect proximity to everything a big city or small town person could want.

Let Your Tastebuds Take a Tour

Celina is home to two well-known vineyards. Caudalie Crest Farm and Vineyard is a real working farm as well as a boutique vineyard.

Guests can visit the barns, pet the baby goats, and watch the master craftsman as he blends the perfect bottle of wine or adds the handcrafted finishes and details that make Crest Farm’s wine a treasure worth keeping.

The vineyard at Eden Hill Winery is another popular local attraction.  This multi-award winning winery features 15 different grapes in its flavorful wines.

An afternoon stop in the winery’s tasting room let’s amateur wine tasters and true aficionados witness how merely blending subtle grape flavors can create a truly unique masterpiece.

Relive History

If history is something that strikes your fancy, there is plenty to see and do in North Texas. Railroad buffs will enjoy the Frisco Heritage Museum, which features railroad history and artifacts like a working steam locomotive and wooden caboose.

The museum is housed in a building that dates back to the start of the town in the 1870s, which is something many visitors with a keen knowledge of architecture find to be fascinating.

There is also Chestnut Square Historic Village, which offers guided tours of the village and trolley tours of the town. If you’re up for a scare, McKinney’s Chestnut Square also provides ghostly hauntings on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

Looking for Adventure?

Within a 30 minute drive of Celina is Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch in Pilot Point, a 126-acre, a hands-on zoological facility located near Lake Ray Roberts.

Get up close and personal with dromedaries, lemurs, and zorses on a private tour. Play with the miniature cows and horses.

Try the all-you-can-eat buffet over at the Bear’s Den and spend your evening sharing a meal with Sharkarosa’s adorable pair of black bears.

For the Kids

Family friendly adventures are never too far away from Celina. McKinney’s Obstacle Warrior Kids, which is 17 miles away, lets children live out their dream to be a superhero or a warrior.

Inspired by the popular tv show American Ninja Warrior, the gym provides high flying fun and entertainment.

Your children can challenge their grips, their agility, and their core strength as their mind tackles the ever-changing obstacle courses.

For the Kid in You

Everyone loves NASCAR, and not too far from Celina is Pole Position Raceway, a European style indoor go-kart facility that has specialty race tracks for both children and adults.

Whip around the track in 18 horsepower adult karts that take you up to a thrilling speed of 45 mph. Compete in one of their races, or compete against yourself to set an all-time personal racing best.

If you’ve ever felt the need for speed, this is a can’t miss.

Let There be Sports

Hometown favorites, the Celina High School Bobcats, have brought home a whopping 20 state titles.  Fans enjoy catching glimpses of up-and-coming athletes in 12 different sports including golf, soccer, tennis, swimming, baseball, track, and of course, Friday night football.

When high school football isn’t in season, locals often head over to Frisco and catch a little European football. Whether it’s a soccer tournament or a live concert, the Frisco Soccer Complex provides sensational stadium seating. Those that want to top their game can join one of the complex’s soccer camps and various leagues.

Toyota Stadium, which is right down the road from the Frisco Soccer Complex, is home to Major League Soccer and FC Dallas. Raise your hands and cheer for every goal, dance along with the FC Dallas Girls, and snag a picture with Tex Hooper. It’s an experience sports enthusiasts won’t quickly forget.
