As you set out to make your own traditions this year, here are four holiday attractions that are worthy of being added to your calendar this year.
A Rustic Holiday at The Tribute
It’s right around mid-December that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season really go into full swing. This is the time when social schedules are the fullest and to-do lists are the longest. While the non-stop pace is something that most of us have become accustomed to during the holidays, it’s nice to step back, let go of all the obligations and just enjoy the festive spirit of the season. This year, The Tribute in The Colony, Texas makes this easy with their Rustic Holiday at the Tribute celebration.
2018 is the first year that The Tribute is hosting its cozy, down-home holiday event. The event website says to wear your coziest plaid, so you know this is the type of holiday celebration where you can relax, unwind and enjoy a day or two of fun with family and friends.
The event is a two -day holiday extravaganza during the weekend of December 8-9, with events that include something for everyone. Daily activities include ice skating, trackless train rides, a classic carousel and a tree farm where you’ll find the tree that will make the perfect holiday centerpiece for your new home.
You can expect to hear great holiday music as local musicians take the stage. Plus, you can check out the local artistic talent as you visit huge wooden deer that have been built by a Tribute resident and then painted by a local artist. The deer are for observation only during the event but will be available for purchase through a silent auction with proceeds that benefit the local charities that are closest to the hearts of The Tribute residents.
Tamales for the Holidays
Turkey and stuffing? Eggnog and fruitcake? Food is the center of many holiday celebrations, but those in northern Texas have a delicious holiday tradition that the rest of the country is missing out on – tamales. Tamales have a long-standing tradition of being one of the most loved holiday foods for Hispanic families, but in recent years, the cultural tradition has caught on and spread throughout northern Texas. You don’t want to let this holiday season pass you by without visiting a local culinary artisan and enjoying the tradition yourself.
If you don’t mind taking the short drive to Dallas, you’ll find a gem of tamale perfection at Luna’s Tortillas. The restaurant reportedly sells 5,000 dozen tamales during the few days leading up to Christmas – for those of you who don’t want to get out your calculator, that’s 60,000 tamales in about three days. It’s obvious from these numbers that tamales are an official holiday staple of northern Texas and that Luna’s Tortillas is the place to go for the absolute best.

For lovers of classics – both traditional and holiday-related – adding this concert featuring Ko Eun Jeoung, the Chancel Choir and guest musicians to your holiday calendar is a must.
