While it may be unsurprising that the construction industry remains male-dominated, here at Taylor Morrison, we’re proud to be knocking down barriers—we’ve seen an 185% increase in women in construction roles since 2019! March 3 – 9 is a week dedicated to women breaking ground in construction and today we’re proud to recognize their accomplishments and release all-new workforce statistics. Grab your hard hats, and let’s get into it!
Measuring Success and Statistics
Numbers talk. Read on.
Percent of our Workforce
Women make up an incredible 44% of Taylor Morrison’s overall workforce—four times the construction industry average of 11%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Celebrating Taylor Morrison’s CEO and Chairman, Sheryl Palmer
Unlike competitors across several industries, our CEO and Chairman, Sheryl Palmer, is one of 50 women CEOs on the Fortune 500, making up only 10% of leaders. Â
TM’s Board of Directors
A huge shoutout to our board of directors, which boasts an equal male-to-female ratio, the highest in the industry.
A Few Words from Sheryl
“Taylor Morrison is focused on creating greater opportunities for women in construction and as more discover this fulfilling career path, our industry only becomes better from it. We understand that oftentimes people need to see themselves in key roles before going after something new, and Taylor Morrison is proof that people from all walks of life, experiences and perspectives can find a rewarding career in construction.”
Tools and Tenacity: Stories from Women in Construction Week 2024
Let’s talk about the incredible women paving the way in the construction industry here at Taylor Morrison. First up is our Division Cadence Manager, Amber Reynolds.
Amber Reynolds, Division Cadence Manager
Amber in Las Vegas, NV
Seemingly by fate, Reynolds started her construction career when a temp agency assigned her a position at a commercial real estate company. In that role, she fell in love with the dynamic atmosphere the industry provides.
Over her 25-year career, Reynolds has served as a starts coordinator, a land coordinator, and a construction administration manager. Today, Reynolds leads weekly production meetings, enforces safety protocols, ensures the division meets its metrics, and supports the field team.
Encouraging Words from Amber
“The construction industry is fast-paced and inspiring. I love contributing to construction transformations and delivering beautiful homes with our team. I encourage women entering the construction field to always stand confident, ask questions, and connect with a mentor.”
Let’s head to the Florida sunshine! Next up is Brittany McConnell, our Tampa-based Build-to-Rent Superintendent.
Brittany McConnell, Build-to-Rent Superintendent
Brittany with her two kids
McConnell is the first Build-to-Rent Superintendent in our Florida markets. She found her way to Taylor Morrison in 2023, inspired by the strong women leadership she found here. Now, she’s building the first Yardly community in Florida!
Introducing Yardly
Yardly communities offer cottage-style homes for rent with a focus on amenities, smart-home technology, and beloved pets—each home comes with a private backyard.
Inspiring words from Brittany
“I like being able to drive by my neighborhood and show my kids what I’ve built. Before I got into construction, I didn’t know any women in the industry. Women are often put into a box, but we’re far more capable of what we’re told we are.”
Last, let’s make our way to the Outer Banks to meet Hope MacRonald, our Construction Project Supervisor in North Carolina.
Hope MacRonald, Construction Project Supervisor
Hope and her brother
MacRonald knew from a young age that she wanted to work in the construction industry. Charmingly, she has childhood memories of building tree houses, forts, and barns. We’re happy to report that MacRonald has achieved those dreams, joining Taylor Morrison in 2022 and earning two promotions since then.
Advice from Hope
“I encourage women pursuing a construction career to understand that they deserve a seat at the table too, alongside their male counterparts. It’s important for them to remain confident and always take the opportunity to learn and grow.”
