It’s a Taylor Morrison mission to help people own their dream home, but we can also help with ideas for the upkeep of a home. To keep your new home in tip-top shape, there are some seasonal chores you need to stay on top of. Here are some maintenance tips for closing out the year.
Heating and Air – Prolong the life of your heater and air conditioner with a little TLC. Cover the outside central air unit with a tarp or plastic sheeting. See that all heating vents are open, change filters and flush the hot water heater. Have your furnace and fireplaces inspected at least every other year.
Plumbing – If you’re living in Chicago, it can get chilly in the winter. But no matter where you live, winterizing is recommended. Check and repair for any leaks in the plumbing, turn off and flush faucets outside. Insulate hot water pipes, cold water pipes and outdoor pipes that could freeze in cold weather.
Outside – Rake leaves and shred for mulch and clean roof gutters and downspouts. While you’re up there, check for roof and chimney damage. Homeowners with Southern California real estate probably don’t need to install storm windows, but sealing windows and doors is always a good idea. Drain and store hoses.
